Discover a curated selection of new works
Spotlight presents a new body of work by German artist Julius Linnenbrink. In these 4 paintings created in his Berlin studio, the artist’s characteristically rhythmic style — which plays with colour gradients, layers, glazes and spaces of exuberant color — is applied to large and mid-sized canvases.

Linnenbrink begins his paintings by drawing on upright canvases, later placing them face up on the studio floor where he paints with acrylic mixed with water, allowing the colors to flow together in chance encounters.

Julius Linnenbrink’s works are all about rhythm, where each movement of the artist’s hand is seen and felt. Working quickly with acrylic paint, he creates his sweeping paintings with great focus and concentration on the piece itself - its size, material, color and composition. Building up the paintings in thin, sometimes undulating layers, Julius Linnenbrink invites his viewers to enter into the depths of the spaces he creates.

”Most of the time I have no idea if I am even close to finishing and then it suddenly hits me. It is more of a feeling than actually knowing. On the other hand I sometimes continue to work on canvases after half a year, that I thought were finished then.”
